While Maestro is inspired by Bordeaux blends, at heart, it’s a free spirit. Rather than a set style, we take our cues each vintage from the vineyards themselves. 2014 was a fantastic season for Cabernet Sauvignon in our prized Wappo Hill and To Kalon vineyards, which led to the inspiration behind this blend. Our 2014 Maestro is designed to capture the refined balance between these two estate vineyards. Part of the Stags Leap growing region, Wappo Hill is a special site offering delicious consistency, and bringing freshness and softness to the wine.
Highly inspired by the response to our limited-release 50th Anniversary Maestro, we once again let artistic direction in the vineyard lead us to a unique blend in this second rendition of Maestro, where a crescendo of dark, juicy plum and cassis fruit, violet, cinnamon, and unsweetened cocoa linger on sumptuous sips full of vibrant flavor and plush tannins.
Suisun (su-soon) Valley is only a 40-minute drive southeast of Caymus and reminds us of Napa Valley in the 1960s. With its warm days and cool nights, the region is known for delicious stone fruits and walnuts – increasingly, it is also gaining recognition for its wine. Durif is synonymous with Petite Sirah, the widely grown grape in the region – we added “Grand” to the name of our Suisun-grown Durif because it has a grand style. With lush textural tannins, this wine is rich, supple and totally enjoyable.
Priorat DOQ, Spain
Grapes: Grenache 45% / Carignan 35% / Cabernet Sauvignon 15% / Syrah 5%
Tasting notes: Nita Priorat opens up with elegant aromas of blackberry, dark cocoa, violets and walnut, and follows through with a similar profile on the palate. The texture of the wine is wonderfully silky, and the absence of oak makes it feel fresh and vibrant in a way that is original.
